Proposal Writing Graphics – A Brief Word About Colour

In my last posts I said I would be going into a little bit more detail on the images used in Proposal Writing and Executive Summary preparation.  This post discusses colour schemes for proposals.

Your proposal will look better and more “together” if thought has been given to the colour schemes used both in the Proposal Document Template and the artwork used throughout the proposal.

There are two groupings of colours used, analogous colours and complementary colours.

Analogous colours are a better choice for developing your proposal colour scheme (or palette) and they sit next to each other on the colour wheel.

Complementary colours sit opposite one another on the colour wheel and will “jar” in the eye when they are placed next to each other.

My advice, from a person who makes no claim to deep knowledge of graphical art, is to make anything major in your Proposal Document Template from the analogous group either side of the main colour you plump for. An emerging alternative, really only available in the last 2-3 years, is to use a lower cost web based graphics company which provides standard of graphics which can be downloaded and modified by a member of your team. They can be modified using packages ranging from ADOBE Photoshop or ADOBE Illustrator to Microsoft Powerpoint (2007+) or Word (2007+) or who can be tasked with generating selected bespoke graphics.  A company I have used in the past, very successfully, is Billion Dollar Graphics. (yes this is an affiliate link but I wouldn’t recommend it if I hadn’t used it and found it very worthwhile).  They have a multitude of professional graphics available ready for use (with minor modification to tailor them for your needs). Resources such as this have dramatically reduced the cost of incorporating high quality graphics in proposals.
